Artist Lecture Series
THOM LAIDIG
Mr. Laidig is a native Angeleno who's artist vision has lead him back to Colorado
in a quest to carve indelible statements in stone: At five years old he first carved
an effigy upon the side of his parents house using a claw hammer and screwdriver.
In place of punishment, encouragement into the arts was focused. A language of quasi-geometric,
intertwined shapes began to gestate. Eventually, with a degree from Cal Berkeley,
a mixed media approach of both life pursuit and materials has culminated and fixated
upon the chisel carving of stone. Steeped in geology, geography and history, he follows
a whimsical and existential voyage into stone abstractions.
